TOP PRIORITIES

Safety of the Residents

Strong Police, Fire and Prosecutors Office

I believe we need to have safe and consistent city resources to grow our city.  This will encourage our current residents to stay, and  attract new families, as well as keep our young residents.  By increasing the Police Force and Fire Department and bringing the Prosecutors office back to full staff we are ensuring the safety and increased protection of all of the Anchorage residents, while ensuring prosperous Growth of Anchorage.

Funds for the City

Not A Sales Tax:

I believe we do not need a Sales Tax but we need to increase funds for the Municipality.  One way I see this happening is through the raising of the current Bed Tax.  The Tax charged guests when using a hotel room in Anchorage.  This would increase funds to the city without incurring costs to the residents of Anchorage.

Strong Housing Market

Create Neighborhoods

If we propose the city turns its old and forgotten neighborhoods into revitalized spaces the creation of city development increases.  Offering incentives to new home owners and business to repurpose old buildings to create modern living spaces will attract new young starter families and young professionals to stay and grow roots.

Increase in Services

City Services on the mend

If we propose the city turns its old and forgotten neighborhoods into revitalized spaces the creation of city development increases.  Offering incentives to new home owners and business to repurpose old buildings to create modern living spaces will attract new young starter families and young professionals to stay and grow roots.

Why Choose Max Powers

I am passionate about Anchorage! I have been living here for the past 10 years and I do not ever plan on leaving.  When I moved here for a job I never realized the magnitude of change which would occur in my life.  I stepped off the plane at Ted Stevens Airport never having been to Alaska and I immediately fell in love.  The views, the fresh air, and the amazing weather! I realized I was home, and never looked back.  I was and still am completely taken by Anchorage.  I had to become involved, I began searching out ways to make a difference and to join in the community. I began researching and before long I was a member of the Fur Rondy events committee, a member of Anchorage Fairs and Festivals, and became an active member of the Downtown Community Council.  Eventually, becoming the Co- Chair of the Event Committee on the Board of Directors for Fur Rondy, Vice President of Anchorage Fairs & Festivals, a member of the Board of Directors of Anchorage Opera and many other local groups working to enhance the city. Now I am asking for your vote to become a member of the City Assembly.  I want to work for you my neighbors and friend to make Anchorage a better place to work and reside in.  I love this city and have adopted it as my home and I will work as hard as I am able to make this the best city to call home.

1

A Neighbor and Friend

I work and live in District 1 of Anchorage and take pride in my home and the community I enjoy so much.  I am your neighbor and will bring the neighborhood to the City Assembly.

2

I care about Anchorage

When you live in a city you need to be a part of the city! I have been participating in  Anchorage activities since I moved here from running the July 4th, Parade to Spring Orange Bag Clean up.  I am Anchorage from the Salmon at Ship Creek to the Summit of Flat Top!

3

I am part of Anchorage Business

I am the Senior Sales Manager at the Sheraton Anchorage Hotel, and have been working in the Tourism and Hotel Business in Downtown Anchorage for the past 10 years.  I Love the Tourism Industry as it keeps Anchorage living.  It is important to keep the Tourism growing in Anchorage, and I work at bringing groups to the city all year long.

4

Innovative Solutions

I have a unique perspective which has not been seen in the City Assembly as I am coming from the Tourism Industry, which is not represented on the Assembly.  1 in every 9 jobs in Anchorage exists due to the Tourism.  I truly believe this is an untapped resource to increase city funds by increasing the Bed Tax, adding a Tourism Tax and other new ideas I would like to share with the Assembly.
